“Defensiveness is normal and universal. It is also the archenemy of listening.” – Dr. Harriet Lerner
You know that feeling.
When someone says something that makes the hairs on the back of your next stand up.
You immediately get on edge.
Your skin starts to crawl.
You get defensive and start to “bow up” to protect your precious little ego.
Yet … do you ever find yourself thinking?
- “Why am I so ticked off right now?”
- “What triggered this emotion?”
- “Who am I right now letting this stupid (comment, action, statement) flare me up.”
I hear you!
It happens to me all the time … so I decided to get to the root of a recent situation that triggered me and find out where it’s coming from.
Understanding your triggers and why you get defensive can really open up so much peace in your life.
Plus, you’ll learn about yourself in the process.
Which makes you a better person.
Which helps your personal brand!
So this week I’m sharing a trigger of mine & how I used 4 simple steps to get myself off of the crazy train.
