How to Tell if Something is an Opportunity or a Time Waster?

“If you don’t know where you are going … then any road will take you there.” – George Harrison

There is nothing I love more than learning something awesome so I can pass it on to you!

My favorite, Marie Forleo, did a piece on “opportunities versus time wasters” a few years ago on her blog. Check her video out here.

I stumbled upon it as I was researching something else and totally did a 180!  I knew this was something I had to share with YOU!

I TOTALLY struggle with this and I’m always wondering if I say yes to too much OR if I said no to something that could have opened a door.

Do you have hard time deciding if something is a time waster or an opportunity?

Do you fear that if you say no you’ll miss out on an opportunity?

Do you hate wasting time?

If you said yes to ANY of the above, you are gonna LOVE this little nugget o’ wisdom I learned from Marie!

So now … let’s dish on this …

I try my hardest to be a master in efficiency. Cut the cable 3 years ago and haven’t watched TV is many years. But even with this time suck out of my life, I try hard to make the right decisions. I start with my gut, if it does’t feel right, I pass. Next I consider the source. If opportunity presents itself but through an unreliable source, I pass. Next, I get a second opinion. I have a bunch of great resources that I use to help me make decisions including a group of friends much wiser that help me sniff out opportunity and weed out the time wasters. Great post. Thanks Judi. (Shameless plug — hope you’ve taken a peek at my book on Amazon — love ya! See ya in DC soon for PMPI!)

    1. Thanks Doug! I hear you on TV … I only DVR shows and rarely watch any TV. It can be a dangerous pigeon hole if we aren’t careful. Glad to hear you have a plan for staying focused. And love that you incorporate people in your circle and mentors. Great idea! And congrats on the book … haven’t peeked yet but I will. See you in DC!
