The Secret to Standing Out!

“Everyone shines given the right lighting.” – Susan Cain

I got the chance a few years ago to hear keynote speaker, Susan Cain.  She is the author of “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.”

Her talk totally got my attention.

Here’s why:

I found out that most people have NO CLUE the real difference between introverts and extroverts.

Example:

99.9% of the time people assume I’m a hands down extrovert.

And I can’t blame them for assuming.   I’m super social, I do Improv, I have tons of energy, and am always up to something new.

Yet actually … I’m a bit more of an Introvert than people think.

A “moderate” introvert to be exact, according to Susan Cain’s “Quiet Revolution Personality Test.”

Honestly, before I really knew the difference between the two, I too just assumed I was an extrovert.

Surprise, I’m not a full blown extrovert after all.

I actually crave solitude and plan for it in my week.  I prefer to work alone. I enjoy silence.  I hate talking on the phone.  I prefer deeper one-on-one conversations as opposed to large group discussions.  I could stay in an entire weekend and DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING (ah bliss!).

Now don’t get me wrong, I love to be social and I have no problem speaking before I think (so working on that!) … however … what really charges me up is my downtime.

So after hearing Susan speak, it felt good to come out and own my “silent swagger.

I also like to think that introverts can make some of the best improvisers … because improv is all about listening … taking your time with a scene and connecting with the present moment.

Whether you are in intro or an extro … it’s important to be clear … because that means you can honor what you need.

It also got me thinking …

Could making an “assumption” about who someone really is backfire on us?

That’s what we are digging into this week … click below to watch this weeks video:

EXTRO……VERT. Without a doubt. Loved the topic, making me think about how we sell to our clients.

    1. Love it!!!! And I agree … it’s a big thing to think about when selling to our client. I really think not knowing can lose you the biz … OR … on the positive … make someone a fan for life!!!! Thanks for the comment!
