“Criticism is something you can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.” ~Aristotle
When the day is over … when I’m finally able to kick my feet up and reflect on my day … most of the time my exhaustion has nothing to do with all the “stuff” I’ve done.
So many times I find myself exhausted b/c I’m constantly trying to win everyone’s approval. I’m wrecking myself over it at times.
I spend too much time speculating on what someone may (or may not) think and I can, at times, take inaccurate meanings to feedback I’ve received.
And before I know it I’ve got way too many negative thoughts running around in my brain, I’m filled with anxiety and the criticism starts to get in my head.
I self doubt, start to question myself as a leader and sometimes even as a person.
I’m constantly working on this and most days I’m good and keeping myself in check, but it’s hard.
I bet you can relate to this. Especially if you are a leader.
You have a platform and as amazing as that platform is … you open yourself up to haters and critics and cynics … people who may not agree with your style or your ideas.
We want you to lead us. We need you to lead us … however, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy.
At the end of the day …. we can’t control what other people will say to us or whether they’ll form negative opinions and share them.
However, we can control how we internalize it, respond to it, and learn from it.
And then we can release it and move on.
If you are dealing with some critcism in your life right now, it may help to remember the following:
